I agree with Dan, especially when considering fiber base B&W prints. Glossy render richer contrast with deeper blacks and more brilliant whites. Granted, it may be a matter of taste but, in my experience, prints that need the muted contrast of matte surfaces have contrast difficulties regardless of the medium, analog or digital.
