Dave Van Verst (Teton Valley Ranch 1952) - Sure has a 'Bonanza' look about it and its not just the subject but the saturation level (not hypervivid). The converging lines of the horizon and the hill bottom left are making the right side of my head hurt and that contradicts the otherwise placid scene.

Achal Pashine (Fruit Seller, Western India) - Would have been cooler without the flash but its still a cool shot as it is. I like the shape of the vendor's body and the repeating circles bounded by the blue box placed slanty in the image.

Dan Mitchell (Secret Courtyard) - I've got too much to look at and I can't settle on anything because the whole world is slanted. The gate blocks the objects in the garden and the gate is cropped in such a way that I can't find harmony there either.

Jeff Spirer (M) - Ah the old M. I believe that's where Vlad was arrested for the first time. I like the grainy lighting transitions, the blown out lights, the stop light about to smack me in the head, the little patch of scroll work on the building facade and the way the lighting give me a feeling of being overwhelmed and looking up to the sky for a break as I stumble around any major city after the subways have stopped running and I've got no cash for a cab.

David Small (Under the El) - Just lovely the way the light not only illuminates the dust and smog but also delicately outlines the cobble stones. A huddled mass of people shuffle along in the shadows of the elevated train. Life subordinate to the machines. Glorious. I love this shot and I would not crop the right third as the bases of these buildings continue the diagonal line formed by the light.

Maris V. Lidaka, Sr. (Ferris Wheel, Navy Pier, Chicago) - I'm a big fan of lines but this shot is not working for me so I lifted up my monitor and tipped it sideways and I liked it a lot more. I think that's because I see the roman numeral IX when the image is rotated. Then I have something to focus on and I'm not overwhelmed by all the diagonals.

Bob Talbot (Wild) - Lovely misty treatment and I don't think I've ever seen better bokeh but the composition is not thrilling and unless a cat is doing something pretty spectacular, I could care less about them.

Emily L. Ferguson (working the grinder) - The composition does not really hold my attention but I find the solid white background to be a bit interesting. I would like it much better without the green line and other shard of a green line and the triangular shaped bean bag target at the left. Then the people would be enveloped in white light which would be kinda cool.

Fletcher Jernigan - I love the way the white lines on this dance around the green heart and the red seeds. The highlight on the central petal is blown out but I don't care because it forms the shape of a bird descending to the right. Plenty of movement, softness and peace like an early episode of Martha Stuart before she began showing up hammered for tapings.

Thanks for your work Ophelia and thanks to our contributors.
