As long as you're embarking on Naomi Rosenblum's History, you may want to pick up the newest issue of the Atlantic magazine and read the article on the scandal that surrounded (and still does to a degree) her husband and the prints of Lewis Hine. It's a great synopsis.

The Atlantic article should be required reading for all PFers. BTW, I agree with your advise that anyone interested in photographic art history should start where ever they fancy. They should begin by having a look at and even handling actual prints in a museum collection.
