Re: Powering old cameras

For me the main problem is replacing the 1.3 V Mercury batteries.
The ones that work OK are the hearing aid batteries but their life is really limited to 2-3 months because they get dry (literally). They get their power by a reaction of Zinc and air, the air gets through several holes in the battery. Someone suggested to paint some of the holes of these batteries with nail polish to extend their life, did that a couple of weeks back and can;t yet report whether this works or not.
I use this batteries inside a piece of plastic in a Yashica TL-Electro.

There is a website that has a comprehensive list of battery replacements:

Good luck

I collect a lot of camera gear, some stuff is very, very old, while others

hazards.

A general question, does anyone know if there are batteries that have
replaced the obsolete ones? Two batteries I know I could use are the ones
similar to the Lithium 3 volt types. One camera uses a similar sized battery
but 6 volts.

Thanks for any suggestions.
