film scanning output format

well..this may be a bore for many of you, but here i go...

i've been scanning film for the first time and i wonder which is the practical way to save the output.

i intend to use the scans for the net andprepare them for 5x7 printning.
what i do is scan once at 96dpi and 480x720 pixels and save as jpeg
and also scan at 300 dpi , TIFF format, and 5x7 inches image size.

the real question is...can i make a single scan (tiff format), and adapt it to net size?
i tried resizing from the former to the latter format, but i got a real small image, so i did not even bother to save...(Photoshop 7)

also...when i save at Tiff, i get the options of jpeg, no compression and LZW...i choose no compression, since i cannot understan if JPeg-inng through tiff saving procedure, is the reguler info losing jpeg or a special Tiff not info losing one....and what is LZW?

all these coming from a guy just learning PS7 the hard way....
thanx in advance, kostas
