But, although I'd like to help certain organizations whose aims I support, I can't do that for very long if I'm dependent on my income from other work to do so. And I can't take a tax deduction for the check I write to those organization if I give the work away. The standard procedure in the profession is to present a complete invoice, get paid for the job and then donate the money back. In that manner the photography is not devalued, the photographer's labor is not devalued, the organization has all the appropriate releases and rights and the shooter gets the tax deduction. All the individuals and organizations win and the profession is not cheapened by publication of poor quality imagery acquired by subterfuge. -- Emily L.
