Well, they say that if aircraft had gone the same way as computers, you'd be able to buy a plane for $10 that fitted in an ordinary garage, flew to anywhere on earth in 6 minutes, using a teaspoonful of crude oil. If photographers had invented the Internet, there would be this system of pneumatic tubes, and screwed up prints whizzing around, and the Great News of 2002 would be that at last the West and East coasts of the US would be joined together.
