Monday I am to be one of three "judges" at a local photo club so I thought it might be a good idea to do a practice run with the PF exhibt photos! Marilyn Dalrymple, Tiffany With Watering Can - very pleasing and attractively presented image of this young lady. Parents will surely like this and I do too. jIMMY Harris, A Couple - interesting action photograph - a slice of life so to speak. Not quite as dramatic as the sailor kissing girl in Times Square but reminiscent of it in a strange way. Tree trunk adds something also. Richard Kessler, A study of a study - I don't quite relate to the story but this sure is a cute kid. Nice clean photograph. Could do with a little touching up of shadows on right side of head. Gary M. Thomas, Reach for it - did the guy catch the ball? Looks like he is anticipating a crash landing. Somehow the shot looks a bit static although it was taken at just about the "height" of action. It would be better with the player looking up instead of down. Janine C. Hanson, Catskill, Autumn, NY 2001 - very easy to look at landscape photograph as-is. Could use a leprechaun. :) Bob Talbot, Historical Artefact - I don't get it. Whatever "it" is. In general I personally think that making photographs in museums is extremely difficult if the photograph is to have greater interest than that of a record shot. Including the P&S camera does not raise this photo to a level that would make one (me) want to consider it a significant record photo or a long-lasting landscape photo like Janine's. Roderick Chen, Blue Wall - got great visual impact on me anyway. I like the geometric patterns and the cool colors. Christiane Roh, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, January 2000 - I notice also what I think was mentioned before about a hole being cut in the wall and the sculpture face being seen through this hole. Interesting to look at and see the figure-ground (?) exchanging postions in my head. Dan Mitchell, Mandoo - the cat seems to be in a very relaxed mood but the photograph does not "move" me - maybe I am not an ardent cat lover although I do like most domestic animals. To me the photo lacks a bit of "oomph". King/Arthur, Three Little Sheep - hmmmm - I think this is a way overdone PS filter and am not sure it conveys "sheep" to me. Also, since the number 3 is "given" one tends to look for them and on close looking it seems there are 4 and so one gets hung up in the caption instead of the photograph/illustration. Andrew Davidhazy, Leah - you should throw your camera away and take up drawing. as always WOP, IMO and TIOLI - adios, Andy
