in this situation ...i tried to remove rpm ..but it warns that other rpms are dependent on it for working.
how do i ensure that ....when i use ext2fs.h in my c file ...the functions ext2fs_open are being used from latest version?

I am not sure what will happen if you remove the rpm.
But you can remove the custom installed binary and update the package by rpm
