This is true.

This however, is not. :)
You can actually move the poi.db, too, using gconf-editor (not installedby default). The relevant GConf key to change:  /apps/maemo/maemo-mapper/poi_db
After changing this path as well, you can move the last remaining filein the default location just as described for the maps db files, anddelete the now empty Maemo Mapper dir.
