None that I knew of. I think it's rather a subject of frequent flaming on mailing lists. Thus I have given up any strong opinion on this ;-) I personally prefer not to get duplicates, so I advocate for this a bit. But I would never really complain either. Your policy also sounds reasonable to me. I think an RFC were very beneficial.
