Alerted by Thoughtfix's post[1] I downloaded RX-34_2007SE_4.2007.26-8_PR_MR0 from http://maemo.org/downloads/nokia_N800 and flashed it on my device[2] [1] http://tabletblog.com/2007/07/breaking-news-new-firmware-is-here.html [2] after some pain and suffering I decided ehci_usb on my laptop was broken and flashed the device successfully on my desktop. Both run Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. Feedback: - the touch-screen is much more sensitive now. YAY! HAPPY! This alone is worth the upgrade. - my 4GB non-SDHC card works despite the release announcement[3] claiming that cards over 2 GB must support SDHC [3] http://maemo.org/news/view/1183705330.html - Skype is there, but I haven't tried it yet. (Evil proprietary protocols must die, anyway.) Now going through my checklist[4] and reinstalling all the apps.
