What version of the Linux kernel are you using?
2.6.35.3-smp
What shows up in "lsmod" after you plug in the player?
If I save output of lsmod before and after plugging the player and run diff with the two logs, then the only line, that gets added, is usb-storage
And what do you see in /proc/scsi/usb-storage?
After plugging in *just* this player (no other usb storage device), I don't have /proc/scsi/usb-storage at all.
If you can, try building a kernel with CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_DEBUG enabled and then see what shows up in the dmesg log when the player is plugged in.
