This patchset doesn't provide any new drivers. It just means that people 
can make use of the generic parts of the option code without then also 
having to use the option-specific code. If devices don't respond to the 
option-specific commands in the driver, then really they shouldn't be in 
option.

Not sending inappropriate commands to devices that then happen to work 
anyway by chance?
