The directories should have the name now, that the symlink had before.

Right, but they would clash if we add them all to the usb bus, because
they are not unique across multiple devices, and would all end up in a
single directory: /sys/bus/usb/devices/*.

That's why I asked, in case we are free to define a name, we might
want to give it a unique one right away, but I expect the symlinks
have been there for a reason.
