speakup not work in debian etch

According to your message, you said you are typing

speakup speakup_synth=apolo

However, the speakup documentation says the keyword for the apollo has
2 l's in it. So, try instead typing:

speakup speakup_synth=apollo

, and see if that helps. Hth.
