You could try installing the linux-source package, which places a tarball in /usr/src that you unpack yourself. You could then take the config for your current kernel, and run a kernel build in that source tree. I don't think it not having speakup will matter, as speakup doesn't touch the area of code you need to build the module. I would then attempt to compile the module against that source tree.
