Well, I guess your options are to either learn exim, or dump it in
favor of another mta that you are able to configure
successfully. Personally, when I reinstalled my server with debian, I
installed qmail via the qmail-src package
<http://pobox.com/~djb/qmail.html>, because I like it, and I dumped
exim of course.
