Well, I'm thinking of just the sound directory as that doesn't get created until the alsa stuff is compiled/installed. At least that's the case on my system. The ALSA 'make install' takes over a half hour on my box and I figured untarring a previously compiled ALSA ot to go much much faster than that and be unchanged in any case.
