Memory actually throws the figure 1200 at me; I recall reading something like, "The original dectalk defaults to 1200 bps but can run at 9600bps, however increasing the serial line speed does not improve responsiveness." This was from a revision of the flipper documentation circa 1991 version 2.74 I seem to recall; I have it here so I can check it out but I get t he feeling that the dectalk 1 is about as useful as my votrax.
