After more tests, swapping the Debian boot disk for a Gentoo one, I found that if I had any 'console=xxx' parameters in palo.conf, then the C3700 post/ipl does _not_ add the sti=xx/x/x/x and sti_font=xxx and TERM=xxx parameters at boot time. I needed to have console output to both the serial and video outputs, rather than switching by plugging/unplugging the keyboard connection..
I am on the most recent (2.0) version of PALO.. RG.
