for the record, i'm using an RME digi 9652 i got from ebay for really 
cheap (under 200€ iirc). no analogue i/o, but three adats. throw in an 
ADAT converter of your choice (starting with the behringer ada8000 for 
220€), and you have 8 channels in/out, easily expandable to 24.

the digi is now 10 or so years old since it first came out. the only 
problem in the mid-term is that it's still a PCI card, so i have to 
watch for PCI slots when upgrading my mainboard. other than that, i'm 
sure the card will be sufficient for my requirements until it finally 
sheds its mortal capacitors.
