My Zoom H2N even works as a USB audio interface under linux.

Yes, and microphones (esp. affordable ones) have improved in these 50
years. The SM57 might work well for speeches and public adresses but,
for example, for an audio book, voice over, or a radio commercial I
would choose another microphone.
