Ian, If you have a camera, it would be of great benefit. You may take a picture in the case that the computer freezes/panics when you run $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvtest.txt First check to see if agrmodem & agrserial modules are present. $ sudo lsmod | grep 'agr*' and if you see them both, run $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvtest.txt if the machine freezes, take a snapshot and send it to us. Otherwise, if the machine does not freeze, edit the file and/or copy it to /etc/wvdial.conf $ sudo cp /etc/wvtest.txt /etc/wvdial.conf and edit the wvdial.conf file $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf and add your username/ISP phone number and password along with a line "Carrier Check = no" and then try to connect. You may at your discretion try to use faxing utitility/howto recommended by Marv. Please report back with your results.
