Joel LIkely the IRQ sharing conflict with IO APIC 17: 95 IO-APIC-fasteoi is causing the [ 0.182323] pci 0000:01:08.0: PME# disabled on boot up configuration. Likely you can use $ sudo setserial SOMETHING to assign a different IRQ to the modem. Read $ setserial --help $ man setserial for detailed guidance.
