Tom,

Practice using the search tools at packages.ubuntu.com,  as likely you
will want to use them again.
Searching with sl-modem returned:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=sl-modem&searchon=names&suite=lucid&section=all
After download they can be co-installed with:
$ sudo dpkg -i sl-modem*.deb
