Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, this is my only modem. I wish to use it to be able to fax from my
notebook on occasion.

I went to ubuntu.packages.com and was directed to the packages.com web
site which had lots of references to packaging supplies and packaging
machines but nothing about the files in question.
