My folder wvdial_jaunty_i386.zip is comprized of a folder with a few files.deb In the host directory containing wvdial_jaunty_i386.zip, do: $ ls wv* to make sure that the archive is really there and thus reported. THen unpack with: $ unzip wv*.zip which will open a folder wvdial_jaunty_i386 . Move into it: $ cd wvdial_jaunty_i386 look around $ ls Do the final installation with: $ sudo dpkg -i *.deb Afterwards you should be able to: $ sudo wvdialconf which tries to find your modem.
