switch to usb modem, attempt dialup connection

attempting dialup connection with earthlink, new usb modem kernal 2.6.27-7 
ubuntu



Gnome-ppp setup tried PAP and CHAP. did not try chat script. modem detected 
but with following tty, modem on com4 (windows). Do I need a chat script or 
ether to usb cable? modem is conexant series 1063, model 3095, 08-15356. 
Have contacted linuxant but no reply yet. Gnome-ppp dialog box... sending 
password hangs, log states modem ok until last line 'type password (or leave 
empty to stop)'. Does this mean that the password is in fact not being sent? 
ISP (as checked with house phone) is not being dialed into on phone line.

Found an USB modem on /dev/ttyACM0.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.
