thanx for the help with internal pctel modem but after a week of , well, I
bought a new usb modem : conexant,series 1063, model 3095, 08-15356
56k. tried to install .deb pkg. and received some warnings: "DECLARE_MUTEX"
redefined, "init_ MUTEX redefined.
/usr/lib/dgcmodem/modules/GPL/oscompat.h:335:1: warning: this is the
location of the previous definition
Make[2]:***[/usr/lib/dgcmodem/modules]error 1
Make[1]:***[_module_/usr/lib/dgcmodem/modules]error2
I beleive I have cleared all info concerning pctel modem and removed it from
the system, any ideas? reinstall .deb or tarball also available, maybe try
.tar? Reid

Are you sure this thing needs a driver of some sort? Many times USB-connected modems work with the kernel's own support. Look in /proc/devices after a boot-up without the modem connected. Then connect it and look again, see if anything appeared. Also check 'lsusb -v' when the thing's connected. Any logs messages made when you plug it in?
