I currently have the following alsa RPMs installed; alsa-utils-1.0.16-3.fc9.i386.rpm alsa-lib-1.0.16-3.fc9.i386.rpm alsa-lib-devel-1.0.16-3.fc9.i386.rpm I downloaded alsa-driver-1.0.18a tarball and built it OK. This enabled sound on my FC9 install. There was no alsa-driver RPM with my distribution DVD due, I suppose, that Fedora is now using pulseaudio which doesn't work unfortunately on my FC9 anyway. I uninstalled the alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.16-3.fc9.i386.rpm which improved the volume levels. I built the modem driver in the alsa-driver-1.0.18a directory, NOT in /usr/src/linux. Should I build all the latest alsa tarballs including the alsa-driver tarball using the same release of all of them and remove the alsa RPMs from my system? Or doesn't it matter that my alsa-driver tarball is a different version to that of my distribution's RPMs. I was told on the ALSA mailing list that it didn't matter when getting sound to work; and sound does now work.
