Hey,
Provided the ALSA driver works and sees your card, then please proceed
with the instructions in
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/HOWTO-Agere-11c11040-HDA.html
Modify the hda_codec.c file IN the ALSA SOURCE you built from, not in
/usr/src/linux, otherwise you will run in to the same problem of no sound.
Furthermore, I would suggest using the package
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/agrsm-20080808-ALSA18.tar.bz2
since it is newer than that recommended in the howto (updated for later
kernels)
Let me know how it goes,
Bjorn.

Hi Bjorn,

In the recommended tarball agrsm-20080808-ALSA18.tar.bz2 there is no hda_codec.c. There is a header file hda_codec.h. The same for the earlier tarball. Is the .c a typo? I know just enough in this area to get myself into deep poo so I am checking before leaping :-)

BTW. disabling pulseaudio by removing alsa-plugins-pulseaudio improved the sound volume from the speakers no end

GN.

A thought occured to me, I remember that Axel from ATRPMS packaged
alsa with the symbols needed for the 11c11040 modems. A quick search
led me to

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-eighth/msg02325.html

which hopefully helps you in some way. I am sorry Axel to disturb,
but if you packaged the driver with the patch(es) for the 11c11040,
then they need to be put to good use :)

Hi Antonio,

Thank you for the info but my system is X86-32. I was googling my sound
card problem and came across the information about the ATRPMS
respository so I added the ATRPMS repository to my yum config a while
ago and ran yum update alsa* which installed the latest alsa packages. I
am not sure where they came from unfortunately.

I now have sound working somewhat OK so, hopefully, I can now get the
modem working.

Regards,

GN
