Yes, I am in the process of working on a HOWTO. 
There is a preliminary version up in the 11c11040 pit
now, but in light of what we have learned with regards
to your system, some changes need to be made...
After this I will let you know and send a link...
Translating to any other language makes it easier for
those who are fluent in it to understand.

With regards to kernel versions/patching, I've
followed a similar procedure to yours on my own system
(2.6.25 kernel) and met with success. (Though I was
using ALSA 1.0.17 and the agrsm driver tailored to
this ALSA).

In that sense there will be some work for people with
kernels other than those we know of now, but this will
diminish as we gather a larger base of precompiled
modules for these kernels/distros.
