Hi,

Incidentally I tried to run the host command on some URLs before the
connection died and got strange things:
#################################################
[root@Estragon alex]# host voila.fr
voila.fr has address 193.252.148.80
;; reply from unexpected source: 212.48.4.15#53, expected 62.211.69.150#53
;; Warning: ID mismatch: expected ID 59315, got 12212
voila.fr mail is handled by 10 smtp.voila.fr.
[root@Estragon alex]# host google.com
google.com has address 64.233.187.99

#################################################

When I installed Ubuntu 7.10, I gave a domain name which of course is
not a true domain name but is the name I chose for my home network. I
then saw this name in /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/hosts. It does not
seem to be stored elsewhere at first sight.

I've seen that some people have solved the " The PPP daemon has died"
issue using pppconfig or kppp. I will also try to clean up my
/etc/hosts file.

Cheers,

AO
