Re: Timed Out When Dialing

Hi all,

I could connect only once at full speed since I last wrote to the
thread I launched on June 20
"Alexandre Oberlin, Italy, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic - Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy "

Since then again all those various and apparently random problems, "NO
CARRIER", "NO DIAL TONE", "maximum attempts reached", "a modem hung
the phone", or super slow and quickly dying connection, without a
single error message.

Don't you think there might be an overall problem with winmodems and
kernels > 2.6.16, since many of us seem to have similar problems with
different hardware and distros ?
I could regularly connect on 2.6.16 with the same config that
constantly fails now.

dialup networking not being on the edge ;-), I suspect testing on new
kernels might be scarce.

Also it seems to me that the coexistence of alsa and non alsa low
level modem driver brings along extra complexity for few reward.

Cheers, and thanks again,

AO
