Hi again, The thing gets completely corrupt after every attempt so it is not easy to finetune wvdial.conf or /etc/ppp/options. I used minicom to reinit with atz which I cannot use in the init strings. Now I consistently get the error 15 or 16 " The PPP daemon has died". In between a download with wget is sometimes feasible. Any attempt to retrieve the mail or browse the web results in a stuck connection. Who is afraid of upgrading distro ? ;-) Thank you again Marvin, AO On 6/27/08, Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Alexandre, > > You seem to the line problems. > Please read Jacques PostInstall Howto at http://linmodems.technion.ac.il > Like included therein, but within /etc/ppp/options, read the section > about decreasing MTU size. > > I don't have the code expertise to comment on it being a general > 2.6..N problem, > except that many of us are not thus troubled. > > MarvS > > On Fri, Jun 27, 2008 at 9:22 AM, <alxobr@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> Hi all, >> >> I could connect only once at full speed since I last wrote to the >> thread I launched on June 20 >> "Alexandre Oberlin, Italy, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic - Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy " >> >> Since then again all those various and apparently random problems, "NO >> CARRIER", "NO DIAL TONE", "maximum attempts reached", "a modem hung >> the phone", or super slow and quickly dying connection, without a >> single error message. >> >> Don't you think there might be an overall problem with winmodems and >> kernels > 2.6.16, since many of us seem to have similar problems with >> different hardware and distros ? >> I could regularly connect on 2.6.16 with the same config that >> constantly fails now. >> >> dialup networking not being on the edge ;-), I suspect testing on new >> kernels might be scarce. >> >> Also it seems to me that the coexistence of alsa and non alsa low >> level modem driver brings along extra complexity for few reward. >> >> Cheers, and thanks again, >> >> AO >> >> >> On 6/27/08, Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >>> Go back to using Stupid Mode. >>> If that alone doesn't work, also go back to +MS=34 >>> >>> MarvS >>> >>> On Thu, Jun 26, 2008 at 9:28 PM, Edison <edison@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: >>>> After I changed +FCLASS=0 to +MS=90, Carrier Check = no and erased >>>> Stupid Mode = yes.
