Antonio,
I must be even much more stupid than I thought so far.
I still do not understand.
In your first reply to Manuel, http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-seventh/msg02844.html
you wrote:

the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack under Linux with:
 	$ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz
and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command:
 	 slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa hw:0,6
 reporting dynamic creation of ports:
	/dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N   , with N some number
 Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

 but when I asked if you did not make a typing error, you answer here:

No it is not a typo, he needs SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz which does not exist in http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/

How is Manuel, and others, myself included, understanding your advice to download a very well defined file from a well defined site when you KNOW that it is not there ????

Regards - Jacques

Because CPU=i686, Welcome to openSUSE 10.3 (i586) - Kernel Linux version 2.6.22.12-0.1-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.2.1 (SUSE Linux)) #1 SMP 2007/11/06 23:05:18 UTC
 scanModem update of:  20071109

He can compile slmodem-2.9.11-20070813.tar.gz with alsa support to generate the slmodemd that he needs because the gcc4.2 package does not exist.

Antonio

Antonio
Please double check which file you wanted Manuel to download.
May I suggest that you mistyped 4.2 in place of 4.1 ?

Hello,

There is no SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz package there. I
downloaded, compiled
and installed slmodem-2.9.11-20070813 package, did
modprobe slamr, but
it still does not work. It shows the error:

error: mdm setup: cannot open dev `/dev/slamr0': No
such device
error: cannot setup device `/dev/slamr0'

What can I do now?
You can compile slmodem-2.9.11-20070813 with ALSA
support
from within slmodem-2.9.11-20070813 directory
$ cd modem
$ make SUPPORT_ALSA=1

You are correct there is no SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz! There needs to be a precompiled one for users that
have systems running gcc4.2.

Subject: agere hda in Acer Travelmate 6291

Hello,

I just bought an Acer Travelmate 6291 notebook,
which according to
 Windows
XP it has an Agere HDA winmodem. It works well
under Windows XP but I
 could
not figure which driver could be installed in
OpenSuse 10.3 to make it
 work.

I am attaching the ModemData.txt generated by
scanModem to see if
 anybody
can provide any guidance: http://www.nabble.com/file/p13843246/ModemData.txt
ModemData.txt
Thanks in advance.
