Fire up another terminal and do the following

[yourusername@localhost  ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost ~]# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

should find the modem port /dev/ttySL0 like the following:

[yourusername@localhost  ~]$ su -

[root@localhost ~]# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Modem = /dev/ttySL0

Please try to connect using wvdial, also please check which DNS servers your ISP uses so that you may add them to your /etc/resolv.conf in case you can connect, but not surf the net. Report back if you have questions and are successful/fail to make the modem work.

Ok, I did that and started the "modem" with:

/usr/sbin/slmodemd --alsa hw:0

It showed this message

symbolic link `/dev/ttySL0' -> `/dev/pts/1' created.
modem `hw:0' created. TTY is `/dev/pts/1'

followed by an infinite number of messages like this:

error: cannot set channels for playback: Invalid argument

I go in minicom and type atdt30095525 and it only returns NO CARRIER .
The phone line cable is properly connected like when I tried it under
Windows.

What can be the problem now?

Are you sure this is the right driver? In Windows it says Agere HDA.
