I did:

$  sudo ./scanModem test 10b9:5451 1179:0001

But that didn't yield any more output than previously.

I simply followed your instructions and now have a functioning modem. Thanks! I did:

$ sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa -s hw:0,1

I followed the instructions in the readme's and got /etc/wvdial.conf setup and working with wvdial. Now, how do I get slmodemd to automatically start everytime xubuntu starts?

Andrew

Your modem is hosted on the audio card
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: ALi Corporation M5451 PCI AC-Link 00:06.0 0401: 10b9:5451 (rev 01)
       Subsystem: 1179:0001
with Subsystem 1179:0001 having an LSI/AgereSystems softmodem chip.

Faking your System with:
$  ./scanModem test 10b9:5451 1179:0001

ouputs as expected with ModemData.txt
-----------------------------------------------------------
 Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
 the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack under Lin ux with:
        $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command:
        sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa -s hw:0,1 reporting dynamic creation of ports:
        /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N   , with N some number
 Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance
-------------------------------------------------------------
Low level modem support is included within the snd-ali5451 driver with higher level COMM functions provided through the complementary slmodemd

Do run on your System also
$  ./scanModem test 10b9:5451 1179:0001
to get Gutsy specific advice.

Will report on your andrews.gz later.
