The proper setup COMMAND is: #  slmodemd  --alsa hw:0,6since the modem is subsdevice 6 on card 0
Follow Antonio's guidance and use wvdial,except don't use     Stupid Mode = yesunless essential.
You may also have to use a country  setting in the slmodemd command #  slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY  --alsa hw:0,6with your country in the ouput of$ slmodemd --countrylist
