Your setup command using the slamr driver should  be:
$  su - root
Check Smartlink.txt on the following command, I don't have it with me now.
# mknod -mode 600  /dev/slamr0  c 141  0
because /dev/slamr0  is in RAM space and must be remade upon bootup
# slmodemd  -c IRAN  /dev/slamr0
Once ports are thus created
# wvdial
using /etc/wvdial.conf  or
# wvdial  --config  wvtest
should get you on line.
