The modem setup is OK as far as you have gone with> sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa -s hw:0,1
But to continue, open a 2nd console and$ sudo wvdialconf   /etc/wvdial.confwhich should report finding the modem and write /etc/wvdial.conf
Do an edit with$ sudo gedit  /etc/wvdial.confputting in your personal information and adding a line Carrier Check  =  no
See the wvdial.txt sample in the SLMODEMD.gcc4.1/  folder
With  /etc/wvdial.conf completed, try a dialout with:$ sudo wvdial
The slmodemd must be ket running during a dialout session.
