Rusty,

Before you can compile the PCtel package you must install packages
providing:
  gcc-4.1 kernel-source-2.6.18.2-34-default
These are a general compiling resource which the PCtel code will need,

Rusty,
Please make the effort to do what ModemData.txt says for your PCTel modem.

    At http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux
Get the pctel-0.9.7-9-rht-6.tar.gz
Unpack under Linux with:
    tar zxf pctel*.tar.gz
and read instuctions therein.
Read Pctel.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

If even that is beyond your skills, you should try to find somebody to
help you.
VERY IMPORTANT REMARK:
You must download ...-rht-7... not ...-rht-6... for your kernel.
MARV: scanModem needs this minor update!
