I am still downloading the iso's, but I already have the 4 cd's of Mandrake community, so my question is , how did you manage to upgrake from the rpms in cd 4?

If you haven't installed external (Internet) package sources Easy Urpmi is a really easy way to do that: http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ (I think "Main" will contain the KDE packages.)
Be sure to click on "Media Manager" and update the Internet sources
periodically so you will have access to new stuff.

I'm sure you can find kde packages for use in rpmdrake.
