Re: IETF 107 Vancouver In-Person Meeting Cancelled

Thanks a lot to IESG and everybody else involved in the hard work and
even harder decisions.

I think it would be great to permit having the planned WG
meetings at their planned time slots during the IETF week,
- Only via webex alone - no meetecho, no-in-person.

A lot of IETF participants have full schedules and the IETF week
may actually work better than the following weeks given how it is
kept free for IETF by attendants in their schedules.

It also seems like less process overhead, continue to use all
datatracker set up for IETF107, and just WG chairs need to
create a webex and communicate it: Top of agenda and WG mailing list.

Would like an explanation if/why this option was not made available
to WG chairs.

Cheers
    Toerless

This decision is based on input we gathered from Working Group (WG) and Research Group (RG) chairs about our ability to hold productive WG and RG sessions at IETF 107. Our assessment of this feedback is that a majority of sessions would not be viable if we were to hold the in-person IETF meeting. On this basis, we believe we cannot hold an effective in-person meeting.

We are also planning to support an increased volume of virtual interim meetings during the weeks that follow. We will send another update to the community soon with more information about these plans. The Hackathon organizers are also considering plans for virtual Hackathon support.
