Thanks Mikael for this find — that is exactly what I was asking for.
That is the kind of information the secretariat/meeting organization should collect and make available.

When the IAOC said "conflicting information," they really did mean it. The Thai Embassy in Canada rather unambiguously claims that you need a non-tourist business visa to "attend business conferences":
