For that case in particular, I've sometimes done it deliberately, but... -- I always close/"sign" actual messages by typing my name, not relying on some signature block. So, if you see "john" or "--john", not immediately following by a "p.s." or something else with a forward pointer from the text above, I'm finished. -- Given that, I sometimes leave additional text as context for those who might need it, expecting that others will understand that they don't need to read anything after the signature line.
