To be clear: we're now seeing a walk-up rate at this hotel which is $75/night lower than our group rate. Hotels, like airplanes, have a perishable inventory. From their perspective, getting a smaller amount of money is better than getting no money. As such, hotels that have rooms available on short notice tend to drop rates. You simply can't compare block reservations done months in advance to spot prices for individual rooms on very short notice.
