That concern is equally valid for those in Asia for any IETF held in
!Asia. There are at least 2 obvious benefits of this proposal.

1. Encourage participation from people in the local area who would
otherwise never be able to attend IETF in person.
2. Expose people in the local area to the value of attending IETF in
person so that they are more likely to travel to a future IETF
(whether they then choose to attend the whole conference or not).

Both of those benefits are equally valid regardless of the value of
"local area" that the meeting happens to be held in.
