It's not even the payment stuff, really.
They will just be annoyed by your "American Credit Card" or similar. It will work, though.
It's more like texts and things like that. Like we would use WhatsApp. Not my favorite, tbh, but everyone has it.

You can pay for all sorts of things with WeChat (sometimes the only way!),
but the problem is getting money in, since many countries forbid their banks
from dealing. On my last trip, I wound up handing cash to a local who
transfered some money to my WeChat. That's probably forbidden.
I'm still unclear which city is being considered: Shengzhen? Or Beijing.
